In 2014 Russia to harvest 11.3 mln tonnes of maize - APK-Inform
During several seasons Russia set new records for maize production, but the season-2014/15 may become some exception. According to analysts of APK-Inform Agency, in 2014 the general harvest of Russian maize may reach 11.3 mlm tonnes, a decrease of 3% compared with last year.
Reduction of the grain yield will cause the reporting decrease of maize production in the country, as in the current year Russia is expected to increase the grain planted areas to the record high level of 2.6 mln ha (2.5 mln ha in 2013). At the same time, in 2014 the average yield of maize in Russia is forecasted by APK-Inform Agency at the level of 4.65 t/ha, which is below the record high index in 2013 (5.01 t/ha), but nevertheless the index will significantly exceed the average result of 5 recent years (4.02 t/ha).
Also, it should be noted that analysts of the Agency formed the forecast excluding data from the Crimea.
