In 2013/14 MY Bulgaria to cut sunflower seed production — expert
In 2013/14 MY the general harvest of sunflower seed in Bulgaria will reduce to the level of 1.73 mln tonnes, against 1.83 mln tonnes in the previous season, declared Dian Donev, General Director of Scanwel Commodities, on May 13 during his report at the conference "VegOils Trade Outlook- 2014" in Istanbul.
The expert called reducing of the oilseed planted areas in Bulgaria to 751 thsd ha, against 780.75 thsd ha in 2012/13 MY, as the main reason for the reporting decrease.
According to D.Donev, reduction of the sunflower seed harvest will lead to rather significant decreasing of the oilseed delivery on foreign markets. In 2013/14 MY Bulgaria will export 0.69 mln tonnes of the oilseed only, against 1.02 mln tonnes in the season-2012/13.
At the same time, he forecasted that in the current MY Bulgaria will increase rapeseed production to 408 thsd tonnes, against 272 thsd tonnes last season. Growing of the oilseed planted areas to 177 thsd ha in the current season, as opposed to 134.5 thsd ha last season, caused such increase of production volumes. The expected rise of rapeseed harvest allows to Bulgaria to increase its exports in the current season to 256 thsd tonnes, against 140 thsd tonnes in 2012/13 MY, said the expert.
