As of May 1, Russia planted 8.7 mln ha of spring crops - Rosstat
As of May 1, 2014 agrarians of Russia had already planted the spring crops throughout the areas of 8.67 mln ha, up 23.5% compared to the rate of the same date of 2013. In particular, the grain and legume crops (without maize) planted areas reached 4.4 mln ha, up 29.3% compared to the rate of the previous season.
At the same time, as of the reported date the spring wheat planted areas had totaled 68 thsd ha, up 95.3% compared to the rate of May 1, 2013. Meanwhile, the agrarians planted the grain wheat throughout the areas of 849 thsd ha (+17.9%), sunflower – 7.19 mln ha (+9.4%), sugar beet – 666 thsd ha (+19.8%).
The Federal State Statistics Service stated as of May 1, 2014 in the Crimea the spring crops planted areas had totaled 153.9 thsd ha, down 20.2% compared to the rate of the same date of the previous year. In particular, the grain and legumes planted areas reached 52.9 thsd ha (-34.7%), sunflower – 57.5 thsd ha (-1.3%).
