Ukraine: growing of the efficiency of agricultural land usage is the basic condition for development of the agricultural complex – expert
Increasing of the efficient usage of agricultural land areas is the basic condition for development of the Ukrainian agricultural complex, declared Olga Hodakovskaya, Ph.D. in Economics, Deputy Head of the land relations department of the National Science Center Institute of Agrarian Economics of Ukraine, during her speech at the conference "AgroResources - 2013" in Kiev on February 12.
O.Hodakovskaya called high level of tilled soils, development of erosive processes, agrochemical degradation of soils and increasing of the areas of acid and saline soils, as the main problems hampering improvement of the soil fertility in Ukraine.
It is also necessary to note worsening of the water regime of the reclaimed land areas, which is accompanied with secondary water logging, flooding or over-drying, etc., the expert added.
Besides, she noted that the absence of crop rotation, increasing of the areas with mono-crop cultivation of plants, which have the annual losses of fertilizer elements at 500-600 kg/ha, have the negative impact on the soil fertility.
O.Hodakovskaya also noted the negative impact of land contamination with radionuclides from the Chernobyl disaster, heavy metals and pesticide residues, as well as increasing of weediness of fields with perennial weeds, trees and shrubs, etc.
