After some reduction in grain purchases in the first half of 2016/17 MY, Egypt restored its position of the key country-importer of Ukrainian wheat in the second half of the season. Since January 2017, wheat supplies from Ukraine to Egypt continued increasing monthly, and exceeded the similar figures in the previous season. Thus, in January 2017 Ukraine exported 60.7 thsd of wheat to Egypt, up 3% compared with January 2016. In March, the shipment volumes increased to 363.2 thsd tonnes, up 2.7 times compared with March 2016.

Generally, in July-March of 2016/17 MY Ukraine exported almost 1.62 mln tonnes of wheat to Egypt, up 3% compared with the same period last season (1.57 mln tonnes). At the same time, active March supplies of grain allowed to Egypt to strengthen in the second position in the rating of countries-importers of Ukrainian wheat, whereas the country usually took the 5th and 6th positions for the whole previous period.

Within frames of the 16th international conference Grain & Maritime Days in Odessa (May 25-26, 2017), there will be a report on development of the situation on the Egyptian market "MENA region: prospects for grain trade in the season-2017/18".
