Morocco: from the beginning of 2012/13 MY grain imports significantly increased

According to the latest report of analysts of the Office National interprofessionnel des céréales et des légumineuses (ONICL) of Morocco, in December 2012 the country imported 450 thsd tonnes of grains, including 210 thsd tonnes of wheat and 180 thsd tonnes of maize.

Thus, since the beginning of the season-2012/13 grain shipments to Morocco reached the level of 3.23 mln tonnes, against 2.62 mln tonnes in the same period in the previous year. Wheat formed 1.77 mln tonnes from the general volumes, as opposed to 1.42 mln tonnes imported in June-December of 2011/12 MY. It should be noted that Ukraine (0.64 mln tonnes), France (480 thsd tonnes) and Canada (410 thsd tonnes) were the main suppliers of the grain.

As for the imports of maize, in the reporting period Morocco increased the index by 340 thsd per year - to 1.37 mln tonnes. At the same time, Brazil remained the leading supplier of the grain to the country (0.88 mln tonnes).
