New season for Black Sea sunflower: close to record
According to the forecast of APK-Inform analysts, in 2014/15 MY sunflower seed production in Ukraine will remain at rather high level and total over 10.55 mln tonnes, which would be the second highest level after the record season-2013/14 (11.5 mln tonnes). Moreover, the given production volume exceeds 5-year average level – 9.8 mln tonnes.
Also, analysts of APK-Inform Agency announced optimistic forecasts for sunflower seed production in Russia in 2014/15 MY at the level of 9.17 mln tonnes, that exceeds the average index of 5 recent years (8.4 mln tonnes) and is the second largest after the record of 10.06 mln tonnes in the current season.
Due to optimistic forecast of sunflower production in Ukraine and Russia, APK-Inform analysts expect high crushing volumes of the oilseed in these countries. Thus, Ukraine can process 10,3 mln tonnes of sunflower in 2014/15 MY that is 0.88 mln tonnes less than in 2013/14 MY but exceeds 5-year average level by 0.9 mln tonnes. Sunflower crushing in Russia can reach 8.92 mln tonnes down from 9.51 mln tonnes year ago but up from average 8 mln tonnes.
