APK-Inform Agency announces about holding of the international conference "Ukrainian soybean market - 2012", which will focus on the market of soybean, and takes place in Yalta on May 16-18, 2012. The Ukrainian soybean association and "Ukroliyaprom" will provide support to the conference.
It should be noted that for the first time in Ukraine there will be held the major event devoted to the most dynamically growing segment of the domestic oilseed market. Only during several years the Ukrainian market of soybean made rather powerful leap: during recent 4 seasons soybean sowing areas increased in 2 times (from the level of 558.5 thsd ha in 2008/09 MY to 1.13 mln ha in 2011/12 MY), and soybean production volumes increased in almost 3 times (in the current season the volumes exceeded the milestone of 2 mln tonnes!). The world market is pushing the Ukrainian producers to increase production volumes of soybeans: exports became the important incentive to expand the sowing areas under soybean. If in 2008/09 MY Ukraine exported nearly 277.4 thsd tonnes of soybeans, in the season-2010/11 the index reached almost 989.5 thsd tonnes. It should be noted that according to analysts of APK-Inform Agency, in the current season-2011/12 Ukraine will step over the level of 1 mln tonnes on soybean exports, and the production index will reach 1.5 mln tonnes.
Due to expansion of sowing and harvesting areas under soybean, and introduction of modern technologies of soybean production, the average yield of soybean is steadily increasing. According to our data, in the current season the average soybean yield totaled 20.5 c/ha, that is why the general harvest volumes of soybean reached the record level. The high level of agricultural production is one of the determining factors in the intention to reach high crop yields and, consequently, increase production of soybeans.
However, the growth rate of soybean production in Ukraine is considerably higher compared to the growth of soybean processing. According to estimations of APK-Inform Agency, in the current year the Ukrainian enterprises will process nearly 300 thsd tonnes of soybean. What is the main reason for this situation? The main constraint factor is the low demand for the major by-product of soybeans - soybean meal (cake). Soybean meal is the key product on the world market of oilseed meals, which explains its leading position at the volumes of production and nutritional properties. Nevertheless, the demand in the product of Ukrainian origin is rather small on both domestic and foreign markets.
During recent three seasons the soybean oil market was characterized by reduction of the production volumes. The maximum volume of production was recorded in 2009/10 MY and totaled almost 78 thsd tonnes. However, taking into account that some companies temporarily stopped processing soybeans, soybean oil production declined by almost 30% (from the level of 78 thsd tonnes in 2009/10 MY to 57.7 thsd tonnes in 2010/11 MY). According to analysts of APK-Inform Agency, in the current season, production volumes of the product will decrease to the level of 53.3 thsd tonnes.
The conference will consider these and other pressing issues, faced by domestic producers, processors and exporters of the oilseed, and all possible ways of solutions.
