In 2014 Ukraine to harvest the record volume of soybeans – 3.2 mln tones
In 2014 the favorable weather conditions caused beginning of the planting campaign of soybeans in Ukraine in two weeks before the average multiannual terms. According to data of the Ministry of Agrarian Policy and Food, as of April 15 the planted areas under soybeans totaled 42 thsd ha (3% of the forecast). On the same date in 2013 agrarians still did not realize soybean planting works.
According to estimations of APK-Inform, due to the planned expansion of the planted areas under soybeans by 20% compared with 2013 – to the level of 1.65 mln ha, the general harvest volumes of the oilseed may total 3.2 mln tonnes. Such index will become the absolute record for the whole history of the country. At the same time, the average yield of the oilseed lowered to 1.99 t/ha (down 3%).
According to the annually realized polling of agricultural producers, the respondents called expectations for high selling prices, the stable active demand for the oilseed, losses of winter crops areas and the corresponding changes of the planted areas structure, as the main reasons for increasing of soybean planted areas in the current year.
