Stable growth on the world grain market – Ukrainian Grain Association

On a long-term horizon the world grain market expects for the stable growth of the production volumes, announced Vladimir Klimenko, President of Ukrainian Grain Association, on September 9 during his speech at the V Ukrainian Grain Congress in Paris.

In the current year the total grain harvest in the world reached 2.46 bln tonnes. Ukrainian Grain Association expects for increasing of the index by 2020 to the level of 2.6 bln tonnes, and by 2030 – to 2.82 bln tonnes, said the expert. According to him, increasing of grain production will be driven by growing of the demand level in terms of increasing of the global population.

In particular Ukrainian Grain Association forecasts the growth of world wheat production by 2020 to 760 mln tonnes, and and by 2030 - to 820 mln tonnes, against 720 mln tonnes in the current year; the world maize harvest – 1.04 bln tonnes and 1.13 bln tonnes respectively, against 0.99 bln tonnes in the current year; the world barley production - 144 mln tonnes and 155 mln tonnes respectively, against 136 mln tonnes in the current year, the expert added. Also, he noted the expected increasing of the yield indices of the reporting grains.

As for Ukraine, in 2014/15 MY production volumes of the major grains in the country will total 57.2 mln tonnes, including 27 mln tonnes of maize, 22 mln tonnes of wheat, 8.2 mln tonnes of barley. Thus, Ukraine will be able to supply 27.3 mln tonnes of grains on foreign markets, including 16 mln tonnes of maize, 9 mln tonnes of wheat and 2.3 mln tonnes of barley.
