To date along with the traditional sunflower seed, Russia and Ukraine continue developing cultivation of high-oleic sunflower seed - sunflower with oleic acid content of over 82% and rather low content of linoleic acid.

Sunflower oil with significant content of oleic acid has a number of strengths:

  • high content of vitamin E;

  • In terms of frying food at high-oleic oil, there is much less trans fats, which are harmful for the health and can cause various diseases. The features of high-oleic sunflower oil make it similar to olive oil, but the price is much lower;

  • the shelf life is longer compared with traditional sunflower oil;

  • high-oleic sunflower seed is a raw material for biodiesel production.

Thus, despite the fact that the market of high-oleic sunflower oil appeared a few years ago only, and still continues developing, it gives the opportunity to take a good position in the future as a supplier of oilseed raw materials for the food and chemical industries in Russia and Ukraine.
