The international transport event of the Black Sea Countries Maritime Days in Odessa 2013 gathered again the leaders of transport industry and shipping. Over 250 representatives of maritime industry from 20 countries of the world – ports and terminals, forwarders and stevedores, cargo and ship owners, lawyers and traders, insurers and bankers gathered to discuss the current industry issues.

The events were held under the general brand of Maritime Days in Odessa.

On the 23rd of May APK Inform and organizers of Maritime Days organized a special Grain Forum Section for grain and transport market players, devoted to the export transportation infrastructure. The section was moderated by Artem Skorobogatov and Nikolay Melnykov, partners of Interlegal.

On the 24th of May the round tables took place: Port Reform: views from investors and market players what to expect?” and “Break bulk and Project cargo carriages in the Black Sea”. Nearly 250 delegates visited the round tables.

The first round table was moderated by Andrey Kuzmenko, Deputy General Director of APM Terminal Poti, and Artur Nitsevych, managing partner of Interlegal. The first round table was devoted to the port reform which enters into force on the 14th of June 2013The industry representatives took part: Andrey Stavnitser, TIS, Artur Nitsevych, Interlegal, Klaus Schmocker, HPC, Steven Bouckaert, MTBS, Edgar Martin, Infospectrum, Eduard Machavariani, ASSA TransCaucasus, Aleksandrs Abuzjarovs, Marine Insurance Services, Olena Losevska, Interlegal, Andrey Shashorin, Remedy.

Artur Nitsevych, managing partner of Interlegal, said that nowadays it was almost difficult to foresee whether the cargo owners’ interests would be touched. We may be sure that the industry would face difficult, almost revolutionary changes and only large transport and logistic market operators which had created the systematic and well-structured business could cope with them.

The second Round Table “Break bulk and Project cargo carriages in the Black Sea” was moderated by Janet Plume who arrived from the USA with the responsible mission and Nataliya Myroshnychenko, associated partner of Interlegal. The round table was devoted to transportation of project and bulk cargo at the Black Sea.

In the end the discussion was focused on the project transportations. The complexity level of the specialized carriers’ projects is too high, the attitude of the ports to the problems of such carriers is poor, the mass and stable transportations not related to difficulties and risks is more preferable.

That and many other – critical condition of transport infrastructure, absence of depths and high tariffs – was further discussed.

Aleksandr Varvarenko, Varamar, Nikos Marmatsouris, GAC, Valentin Bokatyy, Novorossiysk Port Terminal, Natalia Myroshnychenko, Interlegal, Sergey Nazarenko, Dealex Ukraine, made their presentation at the Round Table.

On making the conclusions upon Maritime Days we may state that if the problematic issues of the industry were raised and settled by the experts such fact brings optimism and certainty that the solutions would be found and implemented.

Business part of Maritime Days was accompanied by lots of interesting and entertaining events. They were the traditional evening party devoted to the start of Maritime Days, Annual Dinner of the Ukrainian Shipbrokers’ Club, the international football tournament Odessa Shipping Cup 2013 where at this time 9 teams from Ukraine, European Union and Turkey took part. The champion was the Vista Shipping team, Varamar was the runner-up, Aquavita ranked third.
