Ukraine: agrarians almost completed planting early spring grains and pulses
On April 8, Igor Schwayka, Minister of Agrarian Policy and Food of Ukraine, reported that Ukrainian agrarians have already planted early spring grains and pulses throughout 89% of the planned areas. The early planted areas of spring barley, wheat and oats already showed growing sprouts. Agrarians started planting maize and sunflower seed.
To date agricultural enterprises of 11 oblasts already completed the first additional fertilizing of winter crops throughout the whole forecast areas. Nearly 94% of winter crops areas from 7.8 mln ha of the general planted areas of winter crops were in good and satisfactory condition. The Minister noted that according to the forecast data, the planted areas of spring crops for the harvest-2014 in all categories of agricultural enterprises are expected to reach 18.3 mln ha, excluding possible re-planting works.
