As of August 1, 2014, total grain production in Russia reached 34.4 mln tonnes (excluding maize), an increase of 26.4% compared with the same date last year, announced the Federal State Statistics Service of the Russian Federation (Rosstat) on August 15.

According to the announcement, agrarians harvested grains throughout the areas of 9.6 mln ha, or 31.8% of the planned areas, and up 5.2% compared with the index on August 1, 2013. The average yield totaled 3.61 t/ha, against 3 t/ha on the same date in 2013.

In particular, wheat production made up 28.4 mln tonnes of the reporting volumes (up 29.7% compared with August 1, 2013) with the average yield of 3.87 t/ha.

In addition, agricultural organizations (including peasant (farming) enterprises) of the Crimea harvested 0.8 mln tonnes of grains, up 82.5% compared with the corresponding date last year. The average grain yield in the region totaled 2.37 t/ha (in 2013 – 1.48 t/ha), added the department.
