In 2014, Kazakhstan exported 12.7 thsd tonnes of buckwheat, an increase of 11.5 times compared with 2013, declared the Ministry of Agriculture of the Republic of Kazakhstan.

In particular, Kazakhstan supplied 61% of the reporting volumes to the Customs Union countries - 7.7 thsd tonnes. At the same time, the general harvest of buckwheat in 2014 totaled 46.5 thsd tonnes. The production of buckwheat groats totaled 32.6 thsd tonnes, while the domestic consumption of buckwheat groats totals 46.3 thsd tonnes.

In addition, in January-March of 2015 Kazakhstan imported 551.5 tonnes of buckwheat from Russia, while in January-April of 2014 the index totaled 16.2 tonnes.

In the current year, buckwheat planted areas will reach 90.7 thsd ha, up 22.9 thsd ha or 33.8% compared with 2014 results. Taking into account the average yield of 0.7 t/ha, the production will total 63.5 thsd tonnes of buckwheat, up 17 thsd tonnes, or 37% compared with 2014, stressed the Ministry of Agriculture.
