Ukraine: grain harvest to reach 60.5 mln tonnes – Hydrometeorological Center

Experts of the Ukrainian Hydrometeorological Center increased their forecast of the general grain harvest in Ukraine in 2015 to 60.5 mln tonnes, up mln tonne compared with the index announced in late June, declared Tatyana Adamenko, Head of agrometeorology department of the Hydrometeorological Center, on July 24.

According to her, the harvest volumes will increase at the expense of corn production, which planted areas were in excellent condition as of the reporting date.

In its June forecast, the Hydrometeorological Center provided the corn yield at 6 t/ha, and the harvest volumes at 25.3 mln tonnes. But then the state Statistics Service specified the planted areas (down 150 thsd ha), and the Hydrometeorological Center increased the expected corn yield to 6.2 t/ha, and the harvest - to 26.5 mln tonnes, said T.Adamenko.

In addition, the expert said that the sunflower harvest will depend on duration of the current period of high air temperature. According to preliminary estimations, the oilseed production will total nearly 10 mln tonnes, and the average yield - not less than 2 t/ha.
