In order to meet the food requirements of the constantly growing population in the world, in the following 35 years it is necessary to increase the general grain production by 800 mln tonnes, declared the President of Ukrainian Grain Association, Volodymyr Klymenko during his report at the Caspian and Black Sea Agrarian Congress.

At the same time, the expert noted that during 25 recent years (from 1990 to 2015) the growth of grain production totaled 700 mln tonnes only - from 1.77 bln tonnes to 2.47 bln tonnes. Increasing of agricultural crops yield is the single way to increase the crops harvest volumes, said V.Klymenko.

Also, he stressed that with breakdown into basic grains, corn will receive the most significant increase of production. Thus, the harvest volumes of corn should grow by 310 mln tonnes - from 0.97 bln tonnes in 2015 to 1.28 bln tonnes in 2050. The required growth of wheat global production in 2050 is estimated at 230 mln tonnes (from 0.74 bln tonnes to 0.97 bln tonnes).

Ukraine has all undeniable advantages in provision of the growth of global grain production, because the country has high quality land resources, and the yield potential for major crops is half realized only. According to estimations of V.Klymenko, in terms of keeping of the planted areas under main crops at the level of 2015, and ensuring the yield indices at the level of the countries-leaders, in 2050 Ukraine can reach the production of grains at 99.1 mln tonnes, including 41.4 mln tonnes of wheat, 43.3 mln tonnes of corn, and 14.4 mln tonnes of barley.
