According to the Federal State Statistics Service (Rosstat), in 2016/17 MY the planted areas under soybeans in Russia will increase to the record level of 2.18 mln ha (up 3% compared with the previous season). According to APK-Inform forecasts, in 2016/17 MY the general harvest of the oilseed will reach the record level of 2.71 mln tonnes in clean weight (in 2015/16 MY - 2.7 mln tonnes), declared the oilseed analyst at APK-Inform Agency, Elena Karasik at the round table "Market of major oilseeds and its by-products - 2016" on September 13.
However, soybean yield in 2016/17 MY is expected to reach 1.28 t/ha, as opposed to 1.3 t/ha in the previous season. Thus, in the new season soybean production volumes will mainly increase, due to expansion of the planted areas under the oilseed.
At the same time, E.Karasik added that APK-Inform Agency estimated the imports of soybeans to Russia in 2015/16 MY at the record level 2 mln tonnes, up compared with 9% the previous season (1.83 mln tonnes). However, in the new season the import volumes may rise to 2.1 mln tonnes, she said.
