During 20 recent years, rice production volumes in Russia increased in almost 2.5 times, declared the Director of Department of plant growing, chemicalization and plant protection at the Ministry of Agriculture, Petr Chekmarev on October 25.
According to P.Chekmarev, increasing of the yield indices in almost 2 times to the current level of 5.3 t\ha provided the reporting grain production volumes.
In the current year, agrarians planted rice throughout the areas of over 206 thsd ha. The forecast of its production totals 1.1 mln tonnes, with the average yield at 5.44 t/ha, the official said.
Also, excellent crop selection work, intensification of technologies and usage of high-quality seeds, which varieties provide high yield indices, contributed to the growth of rice production and stable high yield indices in agricultural enterprises of Russia.
