In 2017, Ukraine will increase the planted areas under soybeans by 100-200 thsd ha to more than 2 mln ha, which will also enlarge the oilseed harvest volumes by 10-12%, declared the Deputy Minister of Agrarian Policy and Food of Ukraine, Olena Kovalova on April 13.

According to her, in 2016 Ukraine exported nearly 2.7 mln tonnes of soybeans at the sum of over 985 mln USD. Countries of the European Union became the main consumers of Ukrainian soybeans.

O.Kovalova noted that last year Ukraine exported 325 thsd tonnes of soybean meal, including 83% of the volumes delivered to the EU.

At the same time, 5 years ago the index totaled 15 thsd tonnes. Therefore, the market segment continues growing, added the Deputy Minister.

In addition, O.Kovalova stressed that the production and exports of organic soybeans is the most promising direction of development, because its cost is 70% more expensive than the traditional production of soybeans.
