Frosts in May 2017 will impact on reduction of the harvest volumes of sugar beet, sunflower seed and corn in Kursk, Oryol and Lipetsk oblasts, declared the Director of the Hydrometeorological Centre of Russia (Roshydromet), Roman Wilfand on May 25.

Warm-season crops, including sugar beet, sunflower seed and corn, were damaged by the deficit of heat. In the above-mentioned oblasts, frosts influenced on the crops condition, said R.Wilfand.

At the same time, in 2017 the general harvest of grains in Russia will still vary within the average multiannual figures, but it will not exceed the last year record values.

Winters crops did not face any troubles due to the deficit of heat, and it is very important because the yield figures of winter crops significantly exceed the yield figures of spring crops, added the Head of Roshydromet.
