In 2017/18 MY, Ukraine will keep its positions of the largest global producer of sunflower seed, despite the fact that in 2017 the oilseed harvest in the country will slightly reduce in comparison with the record level last year, to 13.5 mln tonnes, against 13.86 mln tonnes, declared the Consultant at Agritel International, Mikhail Ponomarenko within frames of the third international conference "High-oleic market: from niche to market segment" on September 18, in Kyiv, Ukraine.
A slight reduction in the harvest volumes will develop due to lowering of the average yield to 2.14 t/ha (2.2 t/ha), but the harvested area will remain unchanged and total 6.3 mln ha, specified the expert.
Also, the domestic consumption of sunflower seed will meet the last year level, and total 13.2 mln tonnes, while the beginning stocks will rise to 0.37 mln tonnes (0.19 mln tonnes).
M.Ponomarenko noted that the dynamics of consumption in Ukraine developed in rather uneven way: from 0.1 mln tonnes in 2000/01 MY, to 2 mln tonnes in 2017/18 MY, while the country reached the peak level in the season-2007/08 - 10.5 mln tonnes.
