Ukraine to increase maize areas for the harvest-2014 by 14.6-18.8% - N.Prysyazhnyuk
In 2014 Ukraine may plant maize throughout the areas of 5.5-5.7 mln ha, up 14.6-18.8% compared with the current year, announced Nikolai Prysyazhnyuk, Minister of Agrarian Policy and Food of Ukraine, on October 4.
He explained the reporting increase of the forecast with possible insufficient planting of winter crops caused by bad weather conditions. Agrarians can decrease planted areas of winter crops by nearly 1-1.2 mln ha, said N.Prysyazhnyuk. But the reporting rates are not critical, since the production of wheat in 2014 is expected to reach 15 mln tonnes, with the domestic consumption at 6 mln tonnes.
