Ukraine: lack of rainfall to delay the planting campaign of winter crops
In Ukraine the planting campaign of winter grains and rapeseed for the harvest-2015 will be delayed in the first half of September 2014, due to the lack of sufficient precipitation level, declared Anatoly Prokopenko, Deputy Director of the Ukrainian Hydrometeorological Center, on September 1.
Taking into account the fact that the first half of September faced little or no rainfall, the conditions for planting works throughout many areas will be constrained due to the lack of moisture reserves, he said.
According to him, the moisture content deficit in the soil is observed in southern oblasts of the country, therefore agrarians delay planting works of winter rapeseed.
At the same time, A.Prokopenko noted that the weather conditions forecasted for September 2014 are favorable for the harvesting campaign of late crops, such as sunflower seed and maize.
As a reminder, according to the Ministry of Agrarian Policy, agrarians will plant winter crops for the harvest-2015 throughout the areas of 7.5 mln ha, down almost 4% compared with the areas for the harvest-2014.
