Russia to tighten control for the GM food commodity marking

On April 8, 2014, the Federal Service for Supervision of Consumer Rights Protection and Human Welfare of Russia (Rospotrebnadzor) introduced the Draft Law on the control tightening for the GM food commodity marking.

In particular, the stated Draft Law provides with the administrative responsibility for “breaching of obligatory requirements for food commodities marking, received with Genetically Modified Organisms using or genetically modified commodities”.

The Draft Law introduced the sanctions for not following the stated requirements: for individual entrepreneurs - at the level of 20-50 thsd RUR seizuring the subject of administrative violation, for legal bodies – at the level of 100-150 thsd RUR.
