Ukraine: law on imposition of additional import duties came into force

The Law of Ukraine #1562 “On measures concerning stabilization of the balance of payments of Ukraine in compliance with the Article XII of the General Agreement on Tariffs and Trade of 1994 #73-VIII” was published in the newspaper Uryadovy Courier, and entered into force on February 25.

According to the law, in particular, there is temporarily imposed additional import surcharge for the period of 12 months, on the goods imported to the customs territory of Ukraine according to the import customs regime regardless of country of origin and signed agreements (treaties) of Ukraine on free trade.

The rates of the import surcharge for goods classified in groups 1-24 of the Ukrainian Classification of Goods for Foreign Economic Activity (the UKTZED) (food products, live animals, plants, grains, seeds, fats and oils, etc.) the rate totals 10%, for the goods classified in groups 25-97 of the UKTZED (industry group goods, non-food raw materials, fertilizers, plant protecting agents, etc.) - 5%.

The additional import surcharges do not apply to the imports of essential goods, namely petroleum, natural gas, coal, gasoline and diesel fuel.
