The Government of the Russian Federation applied the document to the Presidential Administration of Russia, providing extension of the food import ban for six months against a number of Western countries, imposed in August 2014, declared Natalya Timakova, Spokeswoman for the Prime Minister of Russia, on June 22.

“A proposal (to extend the food ban) has been prepared and submitted to the presidential administration,” she said. “Regarding the list of goods which will continue to be under embargo, it remains virtually unchanged,” added N.Timakova.

Previously, at a meeting with his deputies Dmitry Medvedev, Prime Minister, informed that "taking into account that the European Union has extended sanctions against the Russian Federation for half a year, I ask you to prepare my proposal to the president to extend the presidential degree (on the ban) for this period".

As a reminder, on June 22 the European Union decided to extend its economic sanctions against Russia until January 31, 2016.
