On December 30, the President of the Russian Federation, Vladimir Putin signed the Federal Law “On Suspension by the Russian Federation of the Agreement on the Free Trade Zone with Regard to Ukraine”. The law suspends as of January 1, 2016, the free trade agreement with Ukraine, signed in St.Petersburg on October 18, 2011.

As a reminder, V.Putin provided the document to the Parliament because the economic part of Ukraine’s Association Agreement with the EU is coming into force, and Russia needs to protect its own economic interests. On December 22 the State Duma of the Russian Federation adopted the reporting law, and on December 25 the Federation Council approved the law.
