The European Parliament's Committee on International Trade (INTA) voted against increasing of zero-tariff quotas for the imports of Ukrainian wheat, tomatoes and urea, reported Interfax-Ukraine news agency on May 4.
According to the announcement, the European Union should offer further trade preferences to Ukraine, but certain agricultural products do not require any additional support by the EU.
As a reminder, in September 2016 the European Commission proposed to increase the annual quotas for certain goods from Ukraine. In particular, the officials proposed to increase the quotas for corn by 650 thsd tonnes, wheat - up 100 thsd tonnes, barley - up 350 thsd tonnes, groats and treated grain - up 7.8 thsd tonnes, oats - up 4 thsd tonnes, honey - up 3 thsd tonnes, grape juice - up 500 tonnes, processed tomatoes - up 5 thsd tonnes.
In March 2017, the European Committee on Agriculture and Rural Development (AGRI) voted against increasing of the quotas for Ukrainian grains and processed tomatoes.
Within frames of the Association Agreement with the EU, Ukraine is able to supply 36 goods to the European Union within the approved duty-free quotas.
