After completion of proceedings of the complaints against Russia filed to the WTO, Ukraine may impose a ban on the transit of Russian goods through its territory, declared the Deputy Minister of Economic Development and Trade of Ukraine/ Trade Representative of Ukraine, Nataliya Mykolska on June 7.

According to the Deputy Minister, to date the WTO has two lawsuits from Ukraine against Russia. The first one (filed in October 2015) concerns trade restrictions on the supply of Ukrainian rail cars and turnout switches to Russia, and the second (filed in the autumn 2016) concerns the imposition of a ban on the transit of Ukrainian goods. In addition, to date Ukraine is working out the third lawsuit against Russia which concerns the Russian restrictions on the supply of Ukrainian food products.

According to N.Mykolska, it is important to determine the fact that such ban is completely illegal, and specify the possibility to apply the responsible retaliation measures for a long time at the level of actual damage made by Russia.
