Ukraine may get additional 1.4 bln USD in the terms of maize yield of 67 c/ha – Monsanto

According to estimations of "Monsanto", one of the leading agricultural company in the world, in the terms of increasing of the average yield of maize in Ukraine to the level of Argentina - 67 c/ha, the agrarian sector of Ukraine will annually receive 1.4 bln USD of additional income (there were used conservative calculations, the price of maize - 200 USD/t, the planted areas of maize - 4 mln ha).

During recent years, Ukraine significantly improved the yield of maize, and in 2011 the average index totaled 64 c/ha as opposed to 49 c/ha, which was observed during recent five years. Usage of modern agricultural technologies and scientific research results by Ukrainian farmers contributes to increasing of yield and receiving of high income, said Juan Ferreira, Vice-President of "Monsanto" in the countries of Europe, the Middle East and Africa.

He added that in achieving of the goals of the state program "Grain of Ukraine", namely an increase of the planted areas of maize to the level of 5 mln ha, and receiving of the average yield of 80 c/ha, the additional income for Ukraine may exceed 3 bln USD a year.
