By 2015 Azerbaijan to stop grain imports
In two years Azerbaijan plans to completely stop any grain importing operations. According to Sabir Veliyev, Head of the department of plant growing of the Ministry of Agriculture of Azerbaijan, in 2012 grain production volumes in the country totaled 2.8 mln tonnes, while the record for grain production (2.9 mln tonnes) was observed in 2008.
In particular, milling grains formed nearly 1.8 mln tonnes from the general production volumes, S.Veliyev said. In the current year it is expected to increase grain production in accordance with the State program on food security, and in 2015 the country plans to completely stop importing grains, and cover the domestic demand (3 mln tonnes per year) from own production capacities.
