In 2012, Ukraine reduced the general grain production by 18.6% - State Statistics Service
According to preliminary data, in 2012 the harvest of grain crops in Ukraine totaled 46.17 mln tonnes in clean weight, a decrease of 18.6% compared with than the same index in 2011, declared the State Statistics Service of Ukraine on January 15.
The announcement noted that in 2012 Ukraine decreased production volumes of almost all grain crops. Thus, the harvest of wheat reduced by 29.4% (to 15.76 mln tonnes), maize - down 8.4% (to 20.9 mln tonnes), barley - down 23.8% (to 6 9 mln tonnes).
Also, in 2012 there was observed a decrease of buckwheat harvest by 15.5% (to 238.6 thsd tonnes), millet - down 44% (to 156.4 thsd tonnes) and rice - down 6.7% (to 158.6 thsd tonnes).
At the same time, in 2012 Ukraine increased production of rye by 16.7% (to 675.7 thsd tonnes), and oats by 24.5% (to 629.6 thsd tonnes).
As for the harvest of oilseeds, the State Statistics Service noted the decrease of the general production volumes of sunflower seed in Ukraine in 2012 by 3.5% (to 8.37 mln tonnes), and rapeseed - down 16.2% (to 1.2 mln tonnes). At the same time, last year the harvest of soybeans totaled 2.41 mln tonnes, an increase of 6.2% compared with 2011.
