Ukraine: Hydrometeorological center increased the forecast of winter crop harvest in 2013 by 20-30%
The weather conditions observed throughout the territory of Ukraine in the recent week, allow expecting for the growth of the forecast of winter crops production in 2013 by 20-30%, informed Anatoly Prokopenko, Deputy Head of the Ukrainian hydrometeorological center, on January 16.
At the same time, he noted that to date there are some doubts about the condition of winter crop areas in several oblasts of Ukraine.
There are some land areas with the thawed soil conditions, which can lead to beginning of vegetation of the plants. Such situation can lead to weakening of the condition of the crops in Kiev, Vinnytsia, Khmelnytsky, Zhytomyr oblasts, said the Deputy head of the Hydrometeorological center.
However, he said freezing of the crop areas is not expected.
