Ukraine: in 2012, the harvested areas under sunflower seed totaled 5.1 mln ha

According to the preliminary results of the harvesting campaign, in 2012 the harvested areas of sunflower seed in Ukraine totaled 5.1 mln ha, reported the State Statistics Service of Ukraine on January 15.

In 2012 Ukrainian agrarians produced 8.4 mln tonnes of sunflower seed in clean weight with the average yield at 16.5 c/ha.

For a long time, the official estimations of the areas under sunflower seed totaled nearly 4.9 mln ha, but the present report confirmed that the real areas of sunflower seed in the country were much higher.

The current estimations by analysts of APK-Inform Agency, regarding the areas, production and yield total 5.2 mln ha, 8.6 mln tonnes and 16.5 c/ha, respectively. We should note that the estimations of the Agency concerning the areas did not change since March 2012.
