Russia: Ministry of Agriculture is considering the possibility of cancellation of the import duties on grains
The Ministry of Agriculture of Russia is currently considering various variants to contain the growth of grain prices on the domestic market. Cancellation of 5%-duty on grain imports can be one of the measures in the direction, reported the agency RBC-daily on January 22, while specifying that the measure is relevant forthe north-western regions of the country, first of all.
At the same time, the Ministry did not provide any official comments on the matter, promising to disseminate information from the meeting.
According to participants of the Russian grain market, since mid-December 2012 the officials started collecting information on the volumes and geography of grain imports.
It should be noted that the main grain import volumes to Russia come from Kazakhstan, and the supplies from the country are not subject to the customs duties. The imports of grains from far abroad countries face the duty of 5%.
