Estonia: grains general production increased in 3 times in 2012

According to the data of Statistics Service of Estonia, in 2012 the grains general production totaled nearly 1 mln tonnes, up 3 times compared to the last year rate. Meanwhile wheat crop reached 485 thsd tonnes and barley – 341 thsd tonnes.

Note the operators of the domestic market of Estonia expected the larger crop, however due to the unfavorable weather conditions the country faced in the end of the harvesting campaign, the agrarians did not harvest the planned volumes.

Note in 2012 Estonia grains planted areas totaled 290.6 thsd ha, down 2% compared to the last year rate. In particular wheat planted areas decreased by 3% - to 124.3 thsd ha, barley – by 8% - to 109.2 thsd ha.
