Ukraine: winter crops losses total 1-8% depending on the region - Ministry of Agrarian Policy
Winter crops areas in Ukraine became perished within the range of 1-8% of the germinated crops, depending on the region, declared the press-service of the Ministry of Agriculture and Food on February 8.
According to the announcement, such level of plant death conforms with standards.
In January, winter crops areas were mostly in the winter dormancy condition, and did not changed much. Only in the Autonomous Republic of Crimea and Kherson oblast, where warming showed the greatest indices in the second half of January, there was renewal of the vegetation period of winter crops, some part of the crops made additional shoots, informed the Ministry.
According to the Ministry of Agrarian Policy, intense rainfalls in December and January substantially enlarged the supply of moisture in the soil, which positively affected the condition of winter crops, but there was observed its lack in the Crimea and Kherson oblast.
Generally, as of February 8, winter crops sprout up throughout 7.9 mln ha, or 97.5% of the general areas of the planted winter crops. The areas showed good and satisfactory condition throughout 7.2 mln ha (91.3%), the weak and thinned - 0.7 mln ha (8.7%).
