Russia: winter crops production may drop due to dry autumn and cold winter - Hydrometeorological Centre
In 2013 the harvest volumes of winter crops in Russia may decline, due to unfavorable weather conditions during the period of planting and vegetation - the dry autumn, severe winter frosts and lack of snow covering (in some regions), said Roman Vilfand, Director of Hydrometeorological Centre of Russia.
He also said that, according to meteorologists, to date the damaged areas of winter crops in the Russian Federation totals 9.5% of the planted areas, or 15.85 mln ha.
As a reminder, at the end of December 2012 Arkady Dvorkovich, Vice Prime Minister, said that despite the cold weather, "the losses of winter crops correspond to the average traditional losses, and total no more and no less - nearly 8-9%".
