Ukrainian farmers sell locally grown wheat at fairly low prices – expert
While the price of Ukrainian wheat on the world market shows the similar level to the British and Spanish grain, the price of its purchases from farmers in Ukraine is significantly lower to the same index in the UK (including Scotland) and Spain, declared Julian Bell, Senior Rural Business Consultant of the company SAC Consulting, in his speech at the conference "AgroResources - 2013" in Kiev on February 12.
To date the average purchasing price of wheat of English and Scottish farmers totals nearly 325 USD/t, while in Ukraine - 265 USD/t, he said.
However, he said that the prime cost of wheat production in Scotland is significantly higher than in Ukraine - 219 USD/t, as opposed to 123 USD/t.
While comparing the indices of wheat yield, J.Bell noted that in Ukraine the average yield totals nearly 3.0 t/ha, while in Scotland - nearly 7.0 t/ha.
