Russia: as of February 1, grain carry-over stocks lowered to 22.6 mln tonnes – Rosstat

As of February 1, 2013, in agricultural, harvesting and processing organizations of the Russian Federation the carry-over stocks of grains totaled 22.6 mln tonnes, a decrease of 9.4 mln tonnes (or down 29.5%) compared with the index on February 1, 2012, declared the Federal State Statistics Service (Rosstat) on February 19.

In particular, as of the beginning of January the carry-over stocks of grains in agricultural organizations decreased by 5.3 mln tonnes or down 31% compared with the same date last year, and totaled 11.7 mln tonnes. The harvesting and processing organizations decreased the index by 4.1 mln tonnes or down 27.7%, to the level of 10.9 mln tonnes.

Wheat formed the major share of the carry-over stocks in the harvesting and processing organizations - 7.11 mln tonnes (including milling wheat – 5.7 mln tonnes). Thus, wheat stocks decreased by 35.4% compared with the same period last year.

Rye stocks totaled 629 thsd tonnes (including 520 thsd tonnes of milling rye), down 29.5% compared with the previous year. Barley stocks reduced to the level of 1.35 mln tonnes (down 12.7%).

At the same time, in the beginning of the month, maize stocks in harvesting and processing organizations of Russia increased by 27.6% compared with the volume on February 1, 2012 - to 1.23 mln tonnes.
