Russia: in 2013, spring crops planted areas to total 51 mln ha – Ministry of Agriculture
In 2013, the planted areas of spring agricultural crops in all categories of agricultural enterprises in Russia are forecasted at the level of 51 mln ha, an increase of 0.5% compared with the previous year index (50.7 mln ha), informed Petr Chekmarev, Director of the Department of crop production, chemization and plant protection of the Ministry of Agriculture, on February 25.
According to him, in the current year the planted areas of spring grains and leguminous crops will total 30.2 mln ha, or 97.9% of the index in 2012 (30.9 mln ha). In particular, P.Chekmarev forecasted increasing of the planted areas of maize for grain by 118.1 thsd ha - to 2.212 mln ha, leguminous crops - up 46.7 thsd ha to 1.932 mln ha, soybeans - up 59.9 thsd ha to 1.536 mln ha, spring rapeseed - up 38.4 thsd ha to 1.146 mln ha.
P.Chekmarev also added that in 2013 agricultural producers are planning to give special attention to growing of spring forage crops, which areas will be increased by 990 thsd ha - to 6.571 mln ha.
