Russia: Ministry of Agriculture estimated the condition of 88% of winter crops areas as good and satisfactory
According to preliminary data of the local agricultural authorities of Russian regions, to date 13.9 mln ha of winter grain areas were in good and satisfactory condition, or 88% of the general cultivated areas, declared Petr Chekmarev, Director of the Department of crop production, chemization and plant protection of the Ministry of Agriculture of the Russian Federation, on February 25.
He added that the final share of perished winter crops areas will largely depend on the weather and climatic conditions of the beginning of the vegetation period.
Also, the official emphasized on the fact that the yield of winter grains is nearly 1.0 t/ha higher compared with spring grains.
By 2020 Russia should ensure increasing of the planted areas of winter grains to 18 mln ha, including winter rye - to 3-5 mln ha, said P.Chekmarev.
