Ukraine: share of winter crops losses is within the standard range – Hydrometeorological Center
To date the average index of planted areas of winter crops in Ukraine, which were in poor condition, totaled 8-10%, which was quite close to the average statistical index of crop losses from adverse conditions, declared Nikolai Kulbida, Head of the Hydrometeorological Center of Ukraine, on March 4.
According to him, it is the small and standard index. For example, in 2003, the losses of winter crops areas totaled nearly 70%, in 1994 - nearly 35%, in 1987 - nearly 25%. In other years, the share of winter crops losses was small, and varied within the range of 10%.
According to N.Kulbida, most of the crops areas in poor condition are concentrated in Odessa (nearly 22%), Donetsk, Zaporozhye and Kherson oblasts (from 12 to 16%). In most regions, the share is very small – within the range of 3-9%.
