Ukraine already exported 18.2 mln tonnes of grains - Ministry of Agrarian Policy
Since the beginning of 2012/13 MY, and as of March 7, 2013, Ukraine already exported 18.2 mln tonnes of grains, an increase of 5 mln tonnes compared with the previous marketing year, declared Nikolai Prysyazhnyuk, Minister of Agrarian Policy and Food of Ukraine.
In particular, since the beginning of 2012/13 MY Ukraine supplied 9.7 mln tonnes of maize, nearly 6.2 mln tonnes of wheat and 2 mln tonnes of barley.
The Head of Ministry also noted positive trends in the geographical expansion of exports of domestic grains.
In the current marketing year Ukraine supplied 7.7 mln tonnes of domestic grains to the European Union. Besides, to date Ukraine is the leading supplier of maize to the United Kingdom, the Minister added.
N.Prysyazhnyuk stressed that the issue of food security is the most important, so the Ministry is constantly working to maintain the optimal balance of grains in the country. To date, he said, the total grain supply completely satisfies the domestic demand.
