Since the beginning of 2012/13 MY Ukraine exported 10 mln tonnes of maize – N.Prysyazhnyuk

Since the beginning of 2012/13 MY, and as of March 11, Ukraine exported 10 mln tonnes of maize, an increase of 1.8 mln tonnes compared with the previous marketing year, declared Nikolai Prysyazhnyuk, Minister of Agrarian Policy and Food of Ukraine, on March 13.

In particular, he said that in February, Ukraine supplied 1.4 mln tonnes of the grain on foreign markets.

To date Ukraine surely comes to the TOP-5 of the global exporters of maize. And the share of supplies of the domestic maize in the world exports totals nearly 14.5%.Ukraine still has significant potential to increase maize exports in the coming years. Besides, the country already has the required storage capacities and processing technologies for maize, which enable to export the crop all year round, said the Minister.

N.Prysyazhnyuk said that in the current year agrarians will increase maize areas, which will not only increase the volume of its production, but also increase the exports. He reminded that in 2012 the grain harvest totaled 21 mln tonnes.
