Russia: as of March 1, grain carry-over stocks lowered to 20.4 mln tonnes – Rosstat

As of March 1, 2013, in agricultural, harvesting and processing organizations of the Russian Federation the carry-over stocks of grains totaled 20.4 mln tonnes, a decrease of 8.6 mln tonnes (or down 29.6%) compared with the index of March 1, 2012, declared the Federal State Statistics Service (Rosstat) on March 19.

In particular, as of the beginning of March the carry-over stocks of grains in agricultural organizations decreased by 4.5 mln tonnes or down 30.3% compared with the same date last year. The harvesting and processing organizations decreased the index by 4.1 mln tonnes or down 28.9%.

Wheat formed the major share of the carry-over stocks in the harvesting and processing organizations - 6.669 mln tonnes (including milling wheat – 5.229 mln tonnes). Thus, wheat stocks decreased by 37.8% compared with the same period last year.

Rye stocks totaled 577 thsd tonnes (including 478 thsd tonnes of milling rye), down 23.1% compared with the previous year. Barley stocks reduced to the level of 1.276 mln tonnes (down 12.8%), rice – 116 thsd tonnes (down 31.4%), buckwheat – 65 thsd tonnes (down 16.1%), millet – 29 thsd tonnes (down 11.2%), oats – 134 thsd tonnes (down 6.3%).

At the same time, as of the beginning of the month, maize grain stocks in harvesting and processing organizations of Russia increased by 24% compared with the volume on March 1, 2012 - to 1.12 mln tonnes.
