In 2017 Russia may receive the first harvest of GM soybeans – expert
In 2017 Russia may produce the first harvest of GM soybeans, forecasted Oleg Sukhanov, Market research manager of the company Bunge CIS.
According to him, in 2014 the Government of Russia will start registering GM seeds, and the process will take a couple of years, but by 2016-2017 Russia will manage to harvest the first volumes of GM soybeans.
O.Sukhanov also reminded that since July 1, 2014, there are changed the rules of GM products usage in Russia, according to the decree of the Government of the Russian Federation N839 dd. September 23, 2013. In particular, the article 11 of the reporting decree provides a possible usage of GM seeds for cultivation and subsequent consumption of soybeans under the terms of preliminary state registration in the Rosselkhoznadzor (the Federal Service for Veterinary and Phytosanitary Surveillance).
