In 2013 Russia produced the record harvest of sunflower seed - Ministry of Agriculture
According to preliminary data of the Federal State Statistics Service (Rosstat), in 2013 the general harvest of sunflower seed in Russia is estimated at the level of 10.2 mln tonnes, which became the record index for the country. The reporting result exceeded the production volumes in 1990 in 3 times (3.42 mln tonnes), and up 27.7% compared with 2012 (7.99 mln tonnes), declared the press-service of Ministry of Agriculture of the Russian Federation on December 30.
According to Petr Chekmarev, Director of the Department of crop production, chemization and plant protection of the Ministry of Agriculture of Russia, the harvested volumes of sunflower seed are sufficient for provision of the domestic consumption and exports of more than 1 mln tonnes of sunflower oil.
To date Russia almost completed harvesting the oilseed - agrarians harvested sunflower seed throughout 6.75 mln ha, or 95.2% of the planned areas (7.08 mln ha). Sunflower seed yield in Russia became the highest during recent 10 years – 1.51 t/ha (in 2012 – 1.3 t/ha, in 2011 – 1.34 t/ha).
