As of January 1, 2014, the carry-over stocks of grains in agricultural, harvesting and processing organizations of the Russian Federation totaled 28.9 mln tonnes, an increase of 3.7 mln tonnes (or up 14.6%) compared with the index on the same date in 2013, declared the Federal State Statistics Service (Rosstat) on January 24.

The carry-over stocks of grains in agricultural organizations increased by 4.1 mln tonnes (up 30.8%) compared with January 1, 2013 – to 17.5 mln tonnes. The harvesting and processing organizations decreased the rate by 0.4 mln tonnes (down 3.8%) - to 11.4 mln tonnes.

In particular, wheat formed the major share of the carry-over stocks in the harvesting and processing organizations - 7.334 mln tonnes, down 5.1% compared with the same period last year (including milling wheat – 5.635 mln tonnes, down 9.6%).

Rye stocks totaled 675 thsd tonnes (including 540 thsd tonnes of milling rye), down 2.1% compared with the previous year. Barley stocks reduced to the level of 1.426 mln tonnes (down 7.9%), rice – 92 thsd tonnes (down 36.1%), millet – 14 thsd tonnes (down 60.2%).

At the same time, as of the reported date maize stocks totaled 1.453 mln tonnes (up 12.2%), oats – 181 thsd tonnes (up 12%), buckwheat – 84 thsd tonnes (up 1%).
